Well after a quiet few weeks, mainly due to football fixtures, the class numbers have improved again, so we can carry on running as normal till August at least! This week Amina was our model, she has worked with us a number of times, and has improved every occurrence!

The nights are also getting lighter so for half the class there is light coming through the windows, as well as our lighting.

Who Knew ?

Shelly was our model last week. She last worked with us last year, but we are always pleased to see her, because as well as being an artist (we are biased, they are some of our favourite people), she is also a performer, and among other things can do Arial Yoga, who knew such a thing existed?

No Excuses !

This week there is NO football match to interfere with getting to class, which is quite a relief!
Also think it worth mentioning that a several of the class go The Dulcimer pub afterwards, anybody is welcome to join us!

It was to be expected !

For once we guessed right! The combination of the Easter Holidays, and the biggest Manchester Derby game in years meant the class had the lowest turnout since the middle of last summer.

It was to be expected!

It did give us a chance to do some slightly different poses. Often we keep lying down poses short as many people have an obstructed view, but this week everybody could move to a good viewpoint. We are so used to seeing people, especially faces, horizontally, that drawing somebody lying down is a real challenge.  Also Kelly out model was not feeling 100% so everybody benefited!

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

Word of Warning!

This coming Wednesday Manchester City play Manchester United at Old Trafford at 8PM !

This means the traffic in Chorlton will be awful before the class. So if you have to travel at all give yourself plenty of time.

On the other hand with a number of regular attendees watching the game, and several on holiday, it should not be crowded, so if you have ever thought of attending, now is a good time !

Veronica was our model last week, it was a welcome return, she has not worked with us since she moved away from the area a year or two ago.

Something new?

While traditionally it’s the New Year when people try something new, for me it is this time of year. Spring seems the ideal time to look at things afresh. And perhaps it’s because most of the people I know are involved in the arts, but I think everybody likes a challenge. So next time you attend the class, try something different! If you normally use Pencil, use Charcoal, If you normally produce line drawings, produce draw without using lines! And of course if you have never attended and are thinking of it, this is the ideal time!

Aaron was our model last week, and he was excellent.

TRAFFIC WARNING!!

On Wednesday evening Manchester United play one of the biggest games of the season against Barcelona. The game starts 8PM. That means traffic will be at its worse about the time of the Life Drawing class. Your journey will take longer than usual!!

PS don’t worry if you are late, we expect it!

LIGHT!

Wow you really notice when the clocks change. It is now light for more than twelve hours a day, or at least it is on a bright day! So it is now daylight when you arrive at the class. Summer is just round the corner! The class is not as full now as it was earlier in the year, but it is still worth arriving early if you can to guarantee a good seat.
Marissa was our model last week, probably he model I have drawn the most, she is really professional, so nobody could blame the model for bad drawings!

Stabilised!

The last two weeks the number of attendees has stabilised, which is good for those attending, it means there is always a good spot. Though as we mentioned last week, it can be unpredictable, so it is always good to arrive early!
Last week our model was Oksana, who was new to us, but is an experienced Life Model, and it showed!
Images from last week. I forgot my camera, so they are not as good as they should be….

A call out for anyone interested…..

We got This Email last week, thought we would post it in case anyone attending the class is interested. CAA are posting this info, and have no further details nor are we liable for any inaccuracy.

I’m a playwright from Manchester. I have previously had worked performed by Jude Law and last year I won the Cardiff Fringe Best Writing Award.

My theatre company are currently looking for a sketch artist to be part of our latest production. We are trying to find somebody who can respond live to the play, whose work would be projected throughout the entirety of an hour-long performance. The hope is that as well as being a beautiful and thematic visual layer to the play, the sketches could also be used to corroborate a ‘mystery’ in the story.
I am getting in touch with you because I was wondering if one of your students might be suited to this opportunity? As a 25-year-old creative, all of my success thus far has been from when people in the industry have actively sought out new talent / given me a chance – I would like to offer a similar opportunity to a talented young artist from my hometown.
If you do think one of your students would fit the bill, please let me know. We would first get them to film themselves responding to a video of the first 5 minutes of the play. Then, if we think they are what we’re looking for, we’d pay for them to go down to London for a rehearsal with the cast. Following this, they would be part of 2-3 performances at a prestigious Manchester theatre, with the possibility of further performances around the country.
If you would like to know more about the play, here is our show pack: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7wss1lk0a1plnug/The%20Toad%20in%20the%20Hole%20-%20theatre%20tour.pdf?dl=0
Thank you so much for your time and all the very best
